Conflict can arise in almost every human activity, not only in family situations. Neighbors can disagree about everything from how loudly they play their music at night to whether or not their neighbor’s pets may use their property as a canine comfort station. Workers and supervisors are famous for allowing small misunderstandings to swell into major confrontations. The list goes on and on. The answer to resolving these disagreements respectfully and successfully lies in attacking the problem, not each other. DIVORCE IS NOT A WALK IN THE PARK, BUT IT DOESN’T HAVE TO BE AN ENDLESS NIGHTMARE EITHER.

“There’s a trick to the Graceful Exit. It begins with the vision to recognize when a job, a life stage, a relationship is over – and to let go. It means leaving what’s over without denying its value.” – Ellen Goodman.

WHY HUMANE DIVORCE?

I call my website “Humane Divorce” because for almost 30 years as a family lawyer, I have never had any clients who didn’t yearn for a compassionate way to end their marriage.

Yes, everyone wants the best lawyer in town. But more and more people are finding that the path to a respectful divorce requires more than legal know-how. It also requires an attorney with a deep knowledge and understanding of the pain that is never far away.

Why then is humane divorce so rare? Why do so many divorcing couples – and their children – continue to suffer the anguish of divorce for years afterward?

The answer is that “going to court” or litigation in family law cases makes you and your spouse mere bit players in the most important drama of your lives. It gives the ownership of your divorce to your lawyers, and often discourages the two of you from finding a humane resolution based on your needs and interests.

Divorce Mediation, Collaborative Divorce, and Marital Mediation put you and your spouse back in charge of your lives. Your trained collaborative lawyers or your impartial mediator help both of you identify your true needs and interests, and guide you to either a truly humane parting of ways, or to a renewed and stronger relationship. Learn how to make the right decisions for yourselves and for those you love.
